In 2017, in the village of Listvyanka (Irkutsk District, Irkutsk Region), the opening of the chapel of St. Nicholas the Equal to the Apostles, who is primarily known as the founder of the Orthodox Church in Japan, was held.
The opening of the chapel was a reciprocal gesture to the act of the Japanese after the end of the Russian-Japanese war in 1905. They have set up a cemetery for Russian war prisoners, and for more than a century they have been keeping it refined.
Timofey Kurgin made not only the initiator, but also provided support in the construction of the Chapel.
«I am very happy that we opened the Chapel, — said Timofey Kurgin at the ceremony. — We have made a big step towards making this place on the Irkutsk land a territory of peace, goodness and salvation of the human soul».
