On May 1, the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara was consecrated in the village of Shelkovskaya of the Chechen Republic. The rite of consecration was made by the Archbishop of Makhachkala and Grozny Varlaam. After the ceremony, the Divine Liturgy with the Easter procession took place in the walls of the temple.
The service was attended by the chairman of the board of trustees + 7 (Russian Regional Development Fund) Timofey Kurgin, Presidential Plenipotentiary in the North Caucasus Federal District Alexander Matovnikov, Assistant Head of the Chechen Republic for the security bloc Daniil Martynov, Stanitsky Ataman and Cossack representatives, and believers from Grozny and the villages of the Chechen Republic.
The temple complex includes the abbot's house, the refectory building and the first Orthodox school in the Republic. On the temple grounds there is an ark with a particle of the relics of the Great Martyr Barbara. As a gift to the newly consecrated church, the hierarch gave the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament.
The Church of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara was destroyed in the 30s of the XX century. With the support of Timofey Kurgin, the complex was restored. The grand opening took place on September 22, 2018.
